Kick-Off
Season Switch is one of the first mini-games that we are publishing here on itch.io as part of the Side-Project Fridays.
The idea
It's always good to get to grips with things that you may not yet have much experience with. It's the quickest and easiest way to learn. In this prototype of a mini-game similar to "Stardey-Valley", the aim is to collect individual objects. In autumn, these are piles of leaves that you, as the owner of a small farm, annoyingly keep finding on your property. In winter, these are piles of snow, which not only make moving around difficult, but also look unattractive in the garden.
Basic elements
- Game-Engine: Godot 4.3
- Animation: Individual 2D assets for the scene and a character with idle and pick-up animation.
Initial thoughts
There should be a way to create a scene in which it is possible to create a change of state in an extremely simple way. In this case, it's about more organic properties in autumn and comparatively static ones in winter.
You can see that we still have a lot planned for this project in terms of the aggregate states of liquids. However, you can already see in winter that the player's movement speed is affected by the surrounding piles of snow.
The next steps will be in the direction of ‘slipperiness’ of ice surfaces and a points system and the expansion of the scene will follow.
